The Iowa Review is now accepting entries to its Iowa City Literary Landmark Photo Contest. The winning photo will be published on the cover of the Winter 2015 issue of The Iowa Review, and the photographer will receive $500. Finalist photos will be featured in a virtual gallery at iowareview.org.

Judged by Iowa Review editors, the photos should feature Iowa City locations of literary significance (or fragments thereof), such as notable authors’ homes, favorite writing spots, or bars; the locations of historic readings; local places mentioned in literary works; or the rumored sites of writerly hijinks. Eligible photos must not have been published or accepted for publication and should be the original work of the submitter. Entrants should submit a brief cover letter and up to ten photos via http://iowareview.submittable.com. There is no entry fee, and the deadline is October 1, 2015.

For a map of Iowa City literary landmarks, entrants should consult the Writing University’s City of Lit webapp. Landmarks include Prairie Lights Bookstore, the Victorian mansion on Van Buren St. where Kurt Vonnegut lived, the UI’s Dey House and Shambaugh House, Dave’s Foxhead Tavern, Tennessee Williams’s Linn Street apartment, and Paul Engle’s former house on Friendly Avenue.

The Iowa Review is based in the Department of English, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, University of Iowa. It publishes three print issues per year featuring poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, author interviews, translations, and work in emerging forms.
