During these uncertain times, the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa remains committed to bringing people across the globe together through the art and practice of creative writing:

We continue to plan for our summer and fall programs, recognizing that we are living in extraordinary circumstances and things change on a weekly, daily, even hourly basis.

IWP’s collection of entirely free online course content covers topics as specific as "Whitman's Civil War: Writing and Imaging Loss, Death, and Disaster" (which actually focuses on peace and reconciliation!) and broader topics like "How Writers Write Fiction: Storied Women." IWP Still Seeks U.S. Students Ages 15-18

U.S. Students Deadline Extended to April 20
Between the Lines (BTL), hosted by The University of Iowa's International Writing Program, is a unique 2-week intensive creative writing camp for high school students ages 15-18.

This is the only program of its kind, combining creative writing skill development with intercultural exchange for youth. Americans are eligible for two BTL sessions in 2020, one of which is entirely free!⁠

The application deadline for U.S. students has been extended to April 20 (applications for non-U.S. students have closed). IWP seeks aspiring young writers, especially Americans who are Muslim, first- or second-generation immigrants, or from refugee communities or low-income households.⁠
