IOWA PRISON WRITING PROJECT

Sunlight in a Prison Library

MATTHEW F., MINNESOTA

The light
Hits the battered white window pane
            And apologetically careens into
the dated classroom
like an awkward teenager unsure of where to
put his hands during his first slow dance. Then,
with the confidence and resolution of a Don Juan, the light accosts the
old, scarred desk.
