The Winter 2017/2018 issue of The Iowa Review is here, and it is packed with thought-provoking and timely fiction, poetry, and essays, as well as an interview with the late James Alan McPherson.

Included in the collection is work by Kazim Ali, Stephanie Burt, Amber Dermont, Niki Neems, and many more. Artwork by Fidencio Fifield-Perez and David Taylor investigates the realities of the U.S./Mexico borderlands. This issue also features the work of the 2017 Iowa Review Award winners and runners-up. In the poetry contest, judged by Joyelle McSweeney, the winner was Catherine Cafferty, and the runner-up was Melissa Barrett; in fiction, judged by Amelia Gray, the winner was Laura Kolbe, and the runner-up was Simon Han; and in nonfiction, judged by Charles D’Ambrosio, the winner was Terrance Manning, Jr., and the runner-up was Julie Marie Wade.

The Iowa Review is a literary magazine based in the Department of English, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, University of Iowa. Founded in 1970, it publishes three print issues per year featuring the best in poetry, fiction, and literary nonfiction. Work from its pages is consistently selected to appear in such anthologies as Best American Essays, Best American Short Stories, Best American Poetry, The Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses, and The PEN/O. Henry Prize Stories.
