Among the buildings on the University of Iowa campus, some of the most adversely affected by the 2008 flood were buildings central to art studies and programming. The Art and Art History buildings, the University’s Museum of Art, Hancher Auditorium, and the School of Music were all damaged or destroyed during the flood.

Recently, progress was made on the move toward recovery when the Iowa Board of Regents approved plans to build a new $175 million Hancher Auditorium, a $152 million School of Music across campus in downtown Iowa City, and a $77 million Art Building. Close to two-thirds of the money will come from the Federal Emergency Management and the rest will come from insurance, donations and other sources.
