Now in its seventh year, Poetry in Public is an annual event sponsored by the City of Iowa City and the Public Art Advisory Committee to encourage writing by people of all ages, and to celebrate the community’s rich literary heritage. Now that Iowa City has been designated a “City of Literature” it’s time to showcase the broad range of literary talent that exists in the community through the 2009 Poetry in Public program.

Both casual writers and published poets, from students to retirees, are encouraged to submit works for consideration in the project. After a panel of judges reviewed the entries and select a limited number of poems for public display throughout Iowa City between April (National Poetry Month) and the following fall.
