Associate professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and POROI executive committee member, Meenakshi Gigi Durham, has recently been receiving well deserved press for her new book The Lolita Effect. Her scholarship focuses on media driven sexualization of young girls and provides parents and other concerned individuals strategies for understanding and resisting this exploitation.
As a self described pro-sex feminist and mother of two young daughters, Durham supports healthy notions of girls' sexuality, while at the same time, is critical of how the media shapes and exploits sexual representation of young girls.
