On Thursday, November 8, Peter Nazareth launched his new book, Edwin Thumboo: Creating A Nation Through Poetry, at the Shambaugh House in Iowa City. Focusing on the poetry of Singapore writer Edwin Thumboo (IWP ’77), the book intertwines Nazareth's story of meeting Thumboo with examples of his poetry, creating a vibrant and complex dialogue between the two. Contained in the book as well is Nazareth’s 1977 interview with the author, and photographs from the '77 IWP residency.
Part of the Interlogue series which spotlights Singaporean authors, Edwin Thumboo: Creating A Nation Through Poetry was edited by Kirpal Singh (IWP '79). Singh will be present for the book launch, and will also give a public presentation in 109 EPB, 3:30 pm, Friday Nov. 9.
Both events are sponsored by the UI International Programs, the UI English Department and the IWP.
