Tuesday 2/6, at 7:00 PM in Art Building West Auditorium: The Experimental Wing and the Maia Quartet will present a screening of Ingmar Bergman's Through a Glass Darkly, with a live performance by the cellist Anthony Arnone. This is the first of four screenings in the Scandinavian/Nordic Fest's Ingmar Bergman Film Festival.Three of these films - Through a Glass Darkly (2/5), Winter Light (2/13), and The Silence (2/20) - are known collectively as 'The Trilogy,' a trio of sparse, vivid films created in rapid succession in the early sixties, widely considered the highlight of Bergman's brilliant career. Autumn Sonata (2/27), Bergman's 1978 film about the psychological struggle between a daughter and her classical pianist mother, will be the fourth and final film in the festival.

Jon Winet, director of the Experimental Wing and the film series coordinator, comments, "We're thrilled to be presenting these films with live performances by top-flight classical musicians from the UI faculty. This is only fitting, as 'The Trilogy' has the rigor and brilliance of a string quartet and 'Autumn Sonata' celebrates the depth of a musician's soul."
